What better way to start the new year than with a new watch on your wrist?
Beginning January 13, Phillips will hold its first single-owner auction dedicated entirely to F. P. Journe watches. In late November, the house held its first online sale of a single-source collection of Armory 66 Mark Cho watches. The event was so successful that the auctioneers decided to sell the Swiss manufacturer to a private collector again.
Le Concours de Complexité, which means “Competition of Complexity,” will be held on the Phillips website and through the Phillips app until January 23rd.
While all of the offerings are exceptional, there are a few noteworthy pieces. The first is a unique stainless steel Grande Sonnerie Souverain with a unique black dial that is in excellent condition and includes all original accessories. During the 13-year production of this model, only 50 examples were produced. However, this particular variant was custom-made for the owner, as the black dial is usually reserved for the brand’s ultra-exclusive Black Label series.
Another highlight is the Ruthenium Chronometer at Resonance. This limited edition model, numbered 2/99, was produced between 2001 and 2005. This was the last brass-movement watch by F.P. Journe before the watchmaker started using only 18k rose gold in their calibers. However, what sets this example apart from the regular model is the ruthenium coating on caliber 1.
99, which you can see throughout the showroom.
The January sale also includes a second-generation Tourbillon Suverain from 2017 and a possibly unique 20th anniversary Résonance in platinum with a rose gold “Salmon” dial. The Tourbillon Souverain is a discontinued reference, produced between 2003 and 2018, with just over 100 examples produced. Meanwhile, the Chronomètre à Résonance features an all-new in-house caliber 1520 equipped with a single barrel spring that powers two movements.
