Hitachi and Equinor join forces to speed up the energy transition.The collaboration will initially focus on the development of standardized core structures that can be applied to high-voltage DC and AC transmission systems to connect offshore wind farms and Equinor’s production facilities to mainland power grids.
They have a long history of collaboration, with Hitachi Energy providing grid solutions and disruptive technologies to Equinor, Dogger Bank A, B, and C, and Troll A.
Geir Tungesvik, Vice President of Projects, Drilling, and Acquisition at Equinor, said: “Hitachi Energy has been a trusted supplier of Equinor for many years.” This strategic cooperation agreement is a sign of our joint efforts to increase our competitiveness in the ongoing energy transition.

The contract covers the entire range of electricity networks and Hitachi Energy technologies and solutions. It includes IdentiQTM, Hitachi Energy’s digital twin circuit for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) and power quality solutions, which offers significant benefits during the design, construction, operation, and lifecycle of the asset. Grid-eXpand TM modular and prefabricated offshore and onshore grid connections that make connecting equipment to the grid faster, easier, and more efficient.
OceaniQ TM solutions such as transformers and other products that work perfectly on land, offshore, and underwater; and network automation solutions that keep onshore and offshore electrical equipment running reliably, safely, and securely.
