Monkey 47 founder Alexander Stein believes that adding locally grown wildflowers to Monkey 47’s recipe sets it apart.

According to the brand, nutmeg’s unique flavor is due to its coumarin content, a chemical compound that gives it a vanilla note. The leaves are dried for several weeks before being added to the botanical mixture, which is then soaked in alcohol before distillation. The tasting notes for this year’s Distiller’s Cut describe it as a dry gin with top notes of cinnamon and vanilla. It sounds like a good Negroni component and potentially an interesting Martini base.
