Generative AI like ChatGPT has shown us the true capabilities of AI in today’s world, but despite that, some people still seem to have mixed feelings about it. It is quite common for people who hear about this artificial intelligence for the first time to look at it in awe because it is the kind of thing that can replace them in the workplace.
With all this said, it is important to note that a recent YouGov survey revealed what public opinion on AI actually looks like. It turned out that 36% of the participants in this study think that artificial intelligence is bad for society. 28% said they weren’t sure, 23% said it was neither good nor bad, and only 13% said AI was a force for good in the world.
Men seem more optimistic about AI in general. 16 percent of men thought reproductive AI was a good thing, while only 9 percent of women said the same. The statistics are also distorted when the respondents are separated by their age.
30-44 year-olds seem the most optimistic, but even there, only 20% thought that reproductive AI could have a positive impact on the world around them. 18-29-year-olds weren’t far behind, with 19 percent saying the same. Only 9% of45-64.thought something good could come from artificial intelligence.
It just goes to show that there are many obstacles to the widespread use of artificial intelligence. Even if it turns out to be useful, convincing people that it doesn’t cause serious harm is still an uphill battle. Interestingly, 52% of those surveyed said that not using AI is also bad for society, so maybe the solution is to use it randomly.
