The broadcaster has exclusive rights to F1 in the UK until 2029 and in Germany and Italy until 2027. This extends the partnership which was first established in 2012 when Sky Sports first acquired the F1 rights.
As part of the deal, Formula 2, Formula 3 and the Porsche Super Cup will also continue to be shown on Sky Sports F1, while Sky’s audio commentary will be available in more than 80 markets. All home races are simulcast on the FTA channel, suggesting a possible Grand Prix in Germany.
Sky said the 2022 season would average 1.7 million viewers, a 60% increase on the start of the UK exclusive deal in 2019. This season’s average audience in Italy is 1.5 million (20%), while Germany’s audience has increased by almost a quarter this season.
