Going forward, Wojcicki will serve as an advisor to Google and Alphabet, following Pichai’s suggestion that Neal Mohan, who is YouTube’s chief product officer, will take over his responsibilities. Interestingly, Mohan will become YouTube’s senior vice president and director instead of CEO. Speaking about Neal Mohan, Wojcicki says, “With everything we’re doing with short videos, streaming, and subscriptions, and the promise of AI, YouTube’s most exciting opportunities lie ahead, and Neal is the right person to lead us.”
Among his earlier roles, he was the first Product Manager for AdSense and also played a role in the very first Google Doodle. He encouraged the company to buy YouTube and, years later, ran the platform as its CEO. YouTube has now become a significant part of Google and Alphabet, accounting for more than 10 percent of the company’s total revenue last year.
