HAIKOU, China, The China Duty-Free Group will open the world’s largest duty-free complex in Haikou on Hainan Island on October 28.
This was announced by the propaganda department of the local party committee.
According to it, the new store has at least 800 well-known Chinese and foreign brands. Its area is 280,000 square meters.
Together with other commercial premises in the complex, including convenience stores, hotels, and office sectors, the total area is 930,000 square meters.
The duty-free shopping destination, featuring the ‘Duty-Free, Free Plus’ and is home to more than 800 retail brands.
The slogan of the new shopping center is “Happy Duty-Free means Better Comfort.” As noted, “this tax-free deal will keep buyers in awe.”
According to Chinese media, the construction of the Haikou complex has already been completed, but there is little finishing work left.
The staff are undergoing training. The complex is located on the bank of the Tsyunzhou Strait, close to the ferry that connects the island with the mainland. The facility is expected to significantly boost the development of the consumer sector in Hainan.
Haikou International Duty-Free City, with six plots of land dedicated to duty-free businesses, high-end offices, excellent hotels, and talent communities, is designed as a center for art, culture, and nature.
Approximately 4,000 square meters of prime store space is dedicated to premium luxury retail brands.
The duty-free location also features around 20 leading food brands and an immersive food art space—Hainan’s first cultural food market.
Haikou International Duty Free City GM Meng Li said at a press conference earlier this week that the mall will attract foreign consumers to return and help Hainan become an international tourism consumption center.
