Gatorade has launched the Gx bottle, which tracks personal hydration needs and lets athletes know when to drink with a light cap. The bottle is an addition to their Gx line and is designed for athletes to meet their hydration needs, with an additional applicator and sweat patch included for optimal recommendations.
The smart cap lights up to remind athletes of their daily hydration goals and lets them know how they’re tracking in real-time. Recommendations for each user are collected based on the person’s sweatband and information collected by the program. It fully integrates with the Gx app and provides additional training, hydration, and product recommendations. “These key differences impact the packaging industry as we offer a smart bottle designed specifically with athletes in mind,” said Drew Palin, Gatorade’s senior director of innovation.
Gatorade claims the bottle is the world’s first smart squeezable bottle and the only smart bottle with light and cap tracking.
” The biggest impact of the Smart Gx Bottle on the packaging industry is personal nutrition and hydration for athletes with a smart bottle that everyday athletes can use at home. The Gx system democratizes what was previously only available to elite athletes and gives access to a laboratory staffed by several sports scientists.
The company created effective tracking methods based on data collected by the Gatorade Sports Institute and research conducted with the Brazilian national soccer team.

Other bottles are designed with an integrated hydration gauge. Last year, Aptar collaborated with REBO to create a recyclable water bottle that tracked users’ hydration using Bluetooth technology.
Their bottle works with the help of a sensor and a laser, and the built-in cap with Bluetooth monitors the amount of water consumed by the user. However, Gatorade claims that by using its own proprietary technology, the product is much more personal than previous water tracking bottles.
Reusable water bottles are standard equipment for athletes because they need constant hydration, while spectators at sporting events often use disposable bottles.
